Rules and Regulations
1. All competitors must register online. To register, please sign up as a member, fill out the required information, and complete the registration fee transaction. You will receive a confirmation email from the organizer after your registration has been reviewed.
2. All competitors of the concerto category must be enrolled in Elementary school or Junior High school in the current 110 academic school year (at the time of registration). Please note that this rule also applies to competitors attending international schools. Violation of this rule will result in disqualification. Students in either regular academic programs or music programs are both welcome to register.
3. Concerto competitions are divided into two rounds — preliminary and final.
Preliminary Rounds: will be done through pre-screening. Please videotape the complete first movement of the assigned concerto of your instrument group (memorized with repeats omitted). Accompaniments must be prepared by the contestants themselves, but will not be graded on their performances. Contestants who receive a score of 88 or higher will be promoted to the final round. The organizer will provide each contestant with the adjudicator’s scoring and comments. Please pay attention to the following:
A) All videos must be recorded horizontally and unedited from start to finish (no pauses, cuts, stops). Performers must be in clear view with hands and feet visible. Failure to meet these requirements will result in disqualification.
B) Please title your video using the following format: your full name (eg. John Smith) - 2022 competitor of the One & Only concerto competition - your instrument (eg. piano)
C) All videos must be uploaded to YouTube with the link provided in your online registration form. Please remember to set your video settings to “public” so that your submission can be viewed. Videos that cannot be viewed will be considered as a forfeit in the competition.
Final Rounds: will be done through live-performance by order of instruments. Please prepare the first movement of the assigned concerto of your instrument group. Pieces must be played from memory with repeats omitted. Accompaniments must be prepared by the contestants themselves*, but will not be graded on their performances.
*Piano concerto contestants: the organization can help in arranging professional accompanists and rehearsal venues. Please note that contestants must be responsible for all fees and rehearsal schedules. Please contact the organizer for inquiry. Available for piano concerto contestants only.
4. The order of competitors will be selected randomly by computer and published onto our website two weeks prior to the competition. Objections and changes are not allowed. Participants must bring a valid student ID (or health insurance card, ID) for verification and report to the venue 15 minutes before the time of competition for their registered group. Late reports will be arranged according to the situation on-site. Please prepare to arrive at the venue accordingly.
5. The organization invites well-known domestic musicians to adjudicate the competitions. Adjudicators will remove the highest and lowest scores to find the average score. Rankings will not be given to the contestants if the contestants do not meet the average score. All results made by the adjudicator are final.
6. Results will be announced after the end of each group. Competitors may receive their scores and comments at the registration office after the results are announced. Scores and comments will not be handed out individually, and no inquiry will be allowed.
7. Video recording and photography are allowed at the venue; however, use of flash is strictly prohibited. All competitions will be recorded by the organization. Please note that the organization owns all portrait rights and copyrights.
8. Each contestant will receive a Certificate of Participation, an Instructor’s Appreciation Certificate, and a trophy. Winners of the first prize in each group will be invited to perform at the Winners’ Gala Concert. Runner-ups will be asked to perform if first prize winners are unavailable. Performers of the Gala Concert will be asked to submit a short bio and portrait before August 5th, 2022.
9. No refunds are allowed after the preliminary round registration fees are made. If the contestant is unable to participate in the final round and wishes to withdraw from the competition, please apply for a refund before July 20th. The organizer will deduct an administration fee of $100 NTD from your registration fee and refund the remainder. No refunds will be processed after July 21th.
10. Under emergency situations such as natural disasters, epidemics, etc. the organizing committee may decide to postpone the competition, switch to online, or proceed with other methods. Please refer to our website for the latest announcements.
11. Our online registration uses a third-party payment by ECPay, so we will not be contacting you via phone call or SMS requesting any additional information or any ATM transactions. If you receive any suspicious notifications, please give us a call.
12. All registered participants must abide by the rules and regulations of the competition. The organization reserves the right to decline applicants who violate any of the rules and regulations, and the right to make changes if met with unforeseen circumstances.
